For sanding with high stock removal, extremely robust and durable abrasives are essential. For this reason, fiber discs , i.e., grinding discs with a vulcanized fiber backing , are primarily used. For surface and fine sanding, a flexible backing pad, such as the Klingspor ST 358, is more suitable.
For fine sanding where the backing pad must be adaptable
In contrast to the hard, ribbed ST 358 A backing pad , the medium-hard ST 358 backing pad is adaptable and follows the contours of the workpiece. It is universally applicable, especially for surface and fine sanding, and offers good temperature resistance.
ST 358 – Backing pads in various sizes and designs
The ST 358 medium-hard backing pad is equipped with a clamping nut for the fiber discs. Ensure that the diameter of the backing pad and the size of the grinding disc match. Standard industry sizes are available for the ST 358.
Grinding at high speed with the ST 358 backing pad
High stock removal is possible when grinding at high speeds. Each wheel size has a maximum speed specified that must not be exceeded:
- 12,200 revolutions per minute with a disc diameter of 125 mm
- 8,500 revolutions per minute with a disc diameter of 180 mm
